It’s true that loving yourself helps improve your sex life. Self-love is fundamental to living a fulfilled and joyful life. When you start seeking your happiness from external sources, you will often find yourself feeling disappointed, bitter and rejected.
That’s why the key to happiness lies with loving yourself. When you love yourself unconditionally, you have a sense of confidence that comes naturally to you, and you experience greater joy and fulfilment in your life.
One of the great things with self-love, is that you’ll find it helps improve your sex life as you are able to start experiencing more pleasurable and fulfilling sex too! One of the key things I teach my clients is that the mind and body are connected and it’s so important to take care of your mind and your thoughts, as it’s all connected.
One of the common themes I find with my clients is that they think negatively about themselves and focus on aspects of themselves that they find undesirable or shameful. Self-destructive thoughts can have a serious negative impact on your confidence, which is why I teach the important of noticing your thoughts and recognise when you are putting yourself down.
Just because you are having certain thoughts about yourself does not make them true. The more you think these same negative thoughts, the more you are trying to convince yourself that they are fact and it is important to be able to catch yourself when you are doing this or these thoughts take over and become overwhelming. Catching your thoughts is called thought awareness and getting into the habit of consistently practicing this really is such a powerful thing.
You don’t have to put yourself down or feel ashamed for having negative thoughts. Our mind and ego have become conditioned to do this, it’s natural and believe me, it happens to pretty much every single human. Simply notice when these negative thoughts happen and where it is coming from and if there are any patterns emerging. Be gentle and compassionate with yourself and you will eventually find the inner authority that recognises that these thoughts are not a true reflection of who you really are.
Having this thought awareness, provides you with an opportunity to use positive thinking and / or positive affirmations to help neutralise the negative thoughts. By doing this, your confidence and self-love will grow as you start to develop an understanding of who you truly are and become less attached and emotionally impacted to the negative mind chatter.
With practice you will begin to recognise when it’s your ego doing the talking and trying to keep you feeling small. The ego does this primarily as a coping mechanism, making you doubt yourself as a way of keeping you where you are, as the ego believes that your current situation is a safe place to be and that change is a threat. When you love yourself your inner authority will recognise when the ego is talking and you will be able to quieten it and lift yourself up with positive self-talk.
Another great benefit of thought awareness is the ability to apply rational thinking. Whenever you have negative thoughts you can ask yourself ‘Is this true?’ ‘Who says this is true?’ ‘Do I truly believe that?’. Even in situations where you feel your negative self-talk is warranted, you can apply rational thinking to try and learn from the experience and make a conscious decision. Applying this rational thinking is great for self-development and strengthening your love for yourself, instead of punishing yourself with negative self-talk.
